Mailbox Makeover

We are just checking off random To-Do’s left and right over here. Our latest - we addressed our dilapidated mailbox.

Exhibit A:

She was sad. Not only was she ugly and carpentry bee infested, but the little red flag was bent and wouldn’t stand up, so our outgoing mail stopped being picked up. It was time for a face-lift.

So obviously this is not going to be a super riveting process. You guys can guess the order of events here…. pop off old mailbox and replace with a new one. BUT, what I liked about this little project was how just a few simple updates made ALL the difference aesthetically speaking and we spent under $30 bucks for the whole thing. I attribute the success to, 3 things:

  1. Paint.

I mean, you get this excited to paint too, right?

As you saw from the before picture, the mailbox stand was wood and just kind of blah. So, we decided to paint it, but instead of going with the standard white we painted it the color of our house!

I just painted right over the carpenter bee holes. The cracks and holes are still there, but look a LOT better with a coat of paint.

2. The numbers

We upgraded the faded stickers with our 75 on them to metal numbers.

And boy what a difference! It just feels so much more considered and sleek.

#3: The mailbox itself.

As great as pretty is, a mailbox is intended to serve a purpose and now, with our shiny new mailbox our flag works and our outgoing mail is picked up. The only thing left to do is figure out how to incorporate a little vine to wrap around the mailbox. How charming would that be? I’m researching options, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, having a new and improved mailbox is a tiny win in the big scheme of life, but we will take it!
