Happy New Year and Happy New Room to us! I’m so excited to let you know our Guest Bedroom is DONE and we saw the finish line in just the nick of time as it was enjoyed by a handful of guests over the holidays!

Since last we talked we have added a rug, nightstands, lamps and most recently - art! The majority of the room was completed a few weeks ago but we just got around to putting the finishing touches together over the holidays, after all of the guests had gone and we had some time to think through the art. But before we dig into the art, let me tell you how lucky I feel this room has been with all the great deals we have gotten on the furnishings. The rug was less than $100 from Wayfair and it’s a 8 x 10, the nightstands are from Amazon and the lamps are from Homegoods. Nothing is expensive, and we didn’t have to settle, we just happened to find things we liked that were at a great price which is probably why we have been able to wrap this room up relatively quickly!

OK - let’s talk art. We had no plan to rush the whole art thing, but ended up happening upon some really cool pieces at Target of all places which kind of kick-started the conversation. After playing around with a few combinations for the big wall in the space, we decided to incorporate two Target prints in a warm dark frame alongside a painting we purchased in Rome back in 2013 on our Honeymoon. We had previously had the painting beautifully framed and the colors of both the art and the frame really worked in the room which was thrilling. It’s always fun to be able to incorporate special pieces without sacrificing the overall vibe you are going for. If you followed along on stories, you know we really had to think through the best approach to take in terms of hanging the art over the moulding. Should we center the art on the moulding or not? Well, as you can see we did NOT, we decided the most authentic look ( in our opinion) was to treat the trim as a standard for the walls, not something to accentuate and I think it all flows better for having taken this approach.

On the wall closest to the door with the funky little trim detail we hung another Target piece (the lady) and a small sketch an artist gave me for free (!!) in Avignon, France back in August. Speaking of France, I picked up that cute little bench (a French Antique) the other day! It was listed for $25 on Facebook Marketplace and has just the right amount of patina on those metal legs. Love how it looks sitting on this wall.

The rooms feels SO nice now and it makes us happy to not only have another completed room, but one we know so many of our loved ones will get to enjoy. So, now the best part of all, let’s recap on how far the room has come with a side-by-side before and after.
